Jay Gruden’s quote about why he benched Adrian Peterson is about to come back and bite him

The Washington Redskins are about to lose running back Derrius Guice for “some time,” per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport after injuring the knee that didn’t have a torn ACL last season.

That’s bad news for the Skins, especially after their Week 1 loss to the Eagles. But it gets kind of worse when you consider who will likely step in for Guice.

It’s future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson, who was a healthy scratch on Sunday, a move that reportedly made veterans on the team unhappy. Right tackle Morgan Moses called it a “slap in the face.”

And then there’s what head coach Jay Gruden said about Peterson before Sunday’s game:

Ouch. And now he’s got to turn to Peterson and depend on the back to carry the load. Awwwwwwkward!
