Jay Gruden praises Ereck Flowers, Geron Christian for preseason performances

Given the way things are going right now for the Washington Redskins, Ereck Flowers and Geron Christian could end up playing quite a bit in 2019.

Christian, a high-upside swing tackle, is getting looks at left tackle while Flowers mans left guard.

For the sophomore Christian, the team’s first preseason game was about his anticipated return from injury, which left head coach Jay Gruden impressed, according to Kyle Stackpole of the team’s website: “Gruden said he’s been impressed with Geron Christian since he returned to the practice field and added there’s upside there.”

Painting in broader strokes, Gruden addressed the left side of the line and looped in Flowers, too:

Few onlookers could suggest the unit was playing superb by any means. But for Gruden, it’s nice to see Christian out there working on his skillset again, especially if he has to play because recent addition Donald Penn isn’t ready.

And with Flowers, the team briefly experimented with him on the edges but has otherwise wanted him on the interior. If he’s playing well there, things are better than anticipated.

While both guys can’t make up the loss of a player like Trent Williams, it seems Gruden is happy with where things stand with those in attendance.
