Jay Gruden on whether the Redskins would trade Trent Williams: ‘I seriously doubt that’

Another day, another muddled comment about Trent Williams and his status with the Washington Redskins going forward.

After news broke earlier in the week that the seven-time pro bowler had asked for a trade from the team, and that the New England Patriots were reportedly interested in acquiring the soon-to-be 31-year-old, we are hearing more denial out of the Redskins camp regarding the situation.

Head coach Jay Gruden met with the media ahead of Saturday’s practice, the eighth day of training camp, and expressed doubt at the prospect of Williams being traded away from the team.

Of course, it is important to note that, throughout his career, Gruden’s number one defense when things get hard has always been humor — he is not afraid to try and break up a tense moment or answer a tough question with a light-hearted quip or remark.

It’s no surprise that Gruden is partaking in this coach speak, but watching him treat the situation with a sense of humor alludes to the notion that all systems are a go in Washington. They want their left tackle back, and if you ask the head coach, they have no intention of sending him away.
