Jay Gruden loses first ever challenge of offensive pass interference

Jay Gruden made Washington Redskins history on Thursday night.

With 7:40 remaining in the first half, Gruden threw the red coaches challenge flag. making the first pass interference challenge call in franchise history.

The call in question came on a 4th-and-2 for the Redskins where quarterback Case Keenum found rookie receiver Steve Sims Jr. wide open down the left sideline. Sims caught a bullet from Keenum and took it down to the 1-yardline, where he was pushed out of bounds. It was called by the referees that a wide receiver ran an illegal pick-route on the play, freeing Sims.

Unfortunately for Gruden, the call for a pick on the play stood as called, and the big completion was taken off the board.
