Jay Gruden and Bruce Allen expect to see Trent Williams on Day 1 of camp

News broke on Monday that veteran left tackle Trent Williams is not likely to report to Washington Redskins training camp on Wednesday, but some with the team don’t seem to be too worried.

On Tuesday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden told reporters at the River City Classic golf tournament in Richmond that he expects Williams to report to camp with other players on Tuesday night, according to Michael Phillips with the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“I expect to see Trent tomorrow,” Gruden said. “See how he’s doing and get him ready to go.”

Team President Bruce Allen was also asked about the Williams holdout, and he expressed confidence going forward.

“Players are reporting tonight, and we expect him,” Allen said. “I’ve talked to Trent, and I’ll leave my conversation between Trent and I.”

The reports that came out on Monday seem to paint the holdout as something that could last a few weeks, with the possibility of leaking into the preseason. If Williams remains away from the team for that long, the Redskins are liable to fine him up to $40,000 per day he is missing.

If you ask team personnel, like Allen or Gruden, it won’t need to come to that. At this point, it is just a matter of who you trust, and what you believe.
