Jay Dasilva thanks Lee Johnson as he contemplates next Bristol City head coach

No player made more successful tackles than Jay Dasilva on Saturday in the 1-3 victory over Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old wing-back was better than any other player on the pitch at stealing possession back at the Riverside Stadium, as the Robins made it back-to-back Championship wins at the weekend.

And the swashbuckling left-back is enjoying being able to get forward more, helped by City returning to the 3-5-2 formation that they used at the beginning of the season and in which City only lost one game in 16 matches.

Dasilva - and Jack Hunt too - are revelling in the return to this tactical system, and City are finding form again - to the point where they can go level on points with sixth-placed Cardiff City if results go their way in mid-week.

"Yeah, I do enjoy this formation, but I'm not sure if I enjoy it more [than other formations]," said Dasilva diplomatically, whose Puma shin pads were returned to him at the weekend by kitman Scott Murray following the legendary Bristol City character forgetting to take them on Saturday and then having to fork out £300 at a local sports shop to replace the whole squads' shin-guards.

"To be fair, as long as I'm playing I'm happy. I have been enjoying it the last couple of games," he adds.

Dasilva admits to finding the lockdown period with no football played for almost three months as a difficult period to navigate, with the boredom allayed by dusting off a controller pad and taking on his two brothers Rio and Cole at FIFA, and staying active via the club's proscribed fitness programmes.

But times are good currently, and conversation turns to the acting head coach and also who might follow Lee Johnson.

"It's been good [under interim head coach Dean Holden], obviously it's not like it's a random guy who has come in, it's someone who's been there with us," says Dasilva.

"He's just been positive and keeping us moving forward.

"Not necessarily [in response to whether there have been many changes]. In football we have to move on quickly and stay positive, and move forward taking it game by game.

Does Dasilva have a preference on who might arrive in BS3 next?

And which former coach has got the most from the former Chelsea and Luton Town flyer so far in his career?

"Anyone really - I think I'm a pretty manageable person," he says.

"Whoever comes in, I'm always going to be a person who works hard and wants to do well for the team.

"I have to say a lot to the gaffer [Lee Johnson], giving me the faith to play here and signing me permanently from Chelsea. He had a lot of faith in me to play," he adds.
