jop[For the first time in his life, Jay Cutler will watch a game from Soldier Field as a fan.
The former Bears quarterback will be in the stadium for the Bears’ season opener Sept. 5 against the rival Packers, he told “Waddle and Silvy” on WMVP-AM 1000 on Wednesday.
“Just kind of going to go as a fan and watch the game and enjoy it,” he said on the show. “I’ve never watched a game from the stadium, from that view. It’s going to be fun, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Cutler reaffirmed that he won’t return to the football field. He hasn’t ruled out a career in broadcasting; Cutler walked away from his new profession two years ago to play for the Dolphins in 2017.
Cutler and wife Kristin Cavallari — the star of the reality show “Very Cavallari” — plan to spend more time in Chicago this year. She’s opening an Uncommon James store downtown.
Cutler said he watched the Bears last year, and was impressed by head coach Matt Nagy.
“I loved what he did last year in using guys in different places and keeping defenses off balance,” Cutler said. “You can just tell that he has a great football mind.”
Cutler also said he felt bad for former Bears kicker Cody Parkey, a former Dolphins teammate, after he double-doinked his playoff kick. Cutler was watching the game on television.
“I felt awful for him,” Cutler said. “He’s a good kid. It’s a tough year, a tough situation. I feel like everyone thought he was going to miss it, and he did. It’s unfortunate.”
