Jay Ajayi ‘maintaining’ discussions with Eagles as he looks to be ready for start of 2019 season

The longer Jay Ajayi goes unsigned in free agency, the more likely that the talented but injured running back could return to the Eagles on a one-year, prove it style deal. Ajayi has been making the free agent rounds, most recently meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, yet leaving without a deal.

The Eagles reportedly are still interested in bringing back Jay Ajayi, and his agent Drew Rosenhaus told Philly.com’s Les Bowen at the NFL Owners Meetings that the team and his client have maintained discussions throughout free agency.

Rosenhaus also indicated that Ajayi is expected to be ready for the start of the season after the running back missed the remainder of 2018 with a torn ACL. Before the injury, Ajayi had 45 carries for 184 yards and three touchdowns (4.1 yards per carry). So far in free agency, the Eagles have balked at throwing big money towards a veteran running back, and the burning question has centered around whether or not the Eagles will target a running back in the draft.
