Jawun Evans says he is ‘Blessed’ on Twitter after Thunder claim him

Former Oklahoma State guard Jawun Evans took to Twitter to express his excitement after the Oklahoma City Thunder claimed him off of waivers on Monday.

The Phoenix Suns waived Evans on Saturday after making just seven appearances with the team. Evans totaled just six points, 10 assists and three steals with Phoenix as a two-way contract player.

Evans spent most of the season in the G League with the Northern Arizona Suns. He averaged 15.1 points, 5.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 32 games with the Suns.

In addition to the tweet above, Evans also retweeted several messages from his followers congratulating him on the move to the Thunder after his release from the Suns.

Evans was the No. 39 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 4.8 points in 48 appearances last season with the Clippers.

The Thunder had an open two-way contract slot available after converting the contract of Deonte Burton to a standard deal at the beginning of the month.

Since Evans is not eligible for the playoffs as a two-way player, the Thunder likely view him as a prospect they can develop in their system to see if he can turn into a contributor at the NBA level.

While Monday was an exciting day for Evans, he also tweeted out that he had been stuck in an airport all day so it may not have been all good news for him.

With the OKC Blue currently in the G League playoffs, it is unclear if Evans will join the team in time to play on Tuesday night or if he will just join the Thunder.

The Blue face the Salt Lake City Stars Tuesday night in OKC.
