Jaws fan's 'utterly brilliant' gravestone spotted in cemetery

A Jaws superfan has been buried underneath the great white shark from the smash hit blockbuster film - and social media users want to roadtrip to witness it.

As reported by BirminghamLive, Burials and Beyond, a social media account dedicated to showcasing the weird and wonderful world of graveyards, told its followers: "This utterly brilliant shark grave marks the resting place of Korean War Veteran, Lester C. Madden."

Sharing an image of the unique and quirky gravestone, the post said: "A Jaws superfan, he chose to spend the rest of eternity beneath the Great White's jaws. You can find his grave at Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh."

The tweet has been liked and shared by dozens of social media users, all of whom seem seriously impressed by the coolness of the headstone in the United States.

"Roadtrip?" one Twitter user asked, tagging in their friend.

"How utterly brilliant, Lester sounds like a very interesting man," a second commented.

And a third said: "That's awesome, I want a wolf head stone."

Mr Madden was reportedly a vet from the Korean War.

When he died in 1983, he wanted to be buried under the great white shark from Jaws, which was his favourite movie.

Fans have unearthed details of where the grave is in the huge Allegheny Cemetery.

So, if you're planning to visit, you will find it in section 26 and lot 65.

Allegheny Cemetery has 124,000 people interred there - so it's quite the place. Though Madden’s headstone is one of the more unconventional headstones in Allegheny, there are thousands of others to peruse while walking the 15 miles of roadway within the gates. The cemetery offers guided historical tours as well as self-guided walking tours year-round.
