NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Saturday said they have questioned students from two groups that clashed at the Kaveri Hostel in Jawaharlal Nehru University.
According to sources, about 40 students from both the groups were questioned regarding the clash that erupted on Sunday. While one group claimed that the brawl took place as non-vegetarian food was cooked during Navratri, the other one alleged that there was a bid to disrupt Ram Navami puja.
“One of the groups also told that it was a preplanned attack. The case is being probed from all angles, including sudden provocation,” a police source said. Earlier this week, the investigating team had written to the JNU administration, seeking permission to enter the campus to investigate the violence. “ Meanwhile, cops are yet to find the source of videos from the hostel made on the day of the incident.
“We have got several videos but all of them are forwarded and during interaction also, we have not found the person who shot the video,” the source said, adding the area where the violence ensued didn’t have CCTV cameras. “There were cameras in the past but those were broken,” an investigator said.
On the basis of complaints, Police had on Monday registered two FIRs under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
