Jaw-dropping video shows Edinburgh 'abandoned home' up for auction for £95k

A jaw-dropping video reveals the extent of the work required inside a £95,000 Midlothian house set to go under the hammer this week.

Edinburgh Live reported on Tuesday that the property, on Lady Emily Way in Gorebridge, was set to be sold at auction on Friday, May 7.

The three-bedroom detached property is of a good size, and looks in decent condition from the outside – so on the face of it a sub £100k price tag seems highly attractive.

However a quick look inside the place reveals the major works required to bring the house up to scratch, with the place only suited to somebody relishing a major project – and willing to spend a few quid.

A YouTube video shared by Future Property Auctions, and viewed thousands of times, shows the interior in a serious state of disrepair. Ceilings in some rooms appear to have completely collapsed, black mould can be seen on the walls, and rubble is strewn all over the floors.

Graffiti reading "GYT" can be seen scrawled across a fridge-freezer, while units and cupboards appear to have been completely destroyed.

Future Property Auctions say the place requires a full refurbishment, and is not currently suitable for habitation.

It comes with a living room, dining room, kitchen, utility room, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. There's also a good-sized garden and garage, with off-street parking. The property is located in a desirable neighbourhood.

Similar properties in the area have sold for £310,000 and £230,000 in recent times.

We reported on Tuesday that ESPC figures revealed average property prices have increased in Midlothian year-on-year for the three month period from February to April. Prices have risen on average by 12 per cent – from £179,068 to £188,734.
