Javier Baez smacks 2 homers, Cubs beat Pirates 13-5

CHICAGO _ Javier Baez usually warms up as the weather heats up, but he's starting to make a timely exception.

Baez ripped a three-run home run in the second inning, and he followed with a solo shot in the eighth to highlight a 16-hit attack as the Cubs rolled to a 13-5 victory over the Pirates.

Baez became the first Cubs player to hit consecutive multi-homer games since Alfonso Soriano on May 16-17, 2008.

Every Cubs starting position player chipped in with at least one hit. Pinch-hitter Ian Happ smacked a two-run home run in the seventh.

Baez smacked his homer well over the center field wall off left-hander Steven Brault, who threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded to score the Cubs' first run.

Baez's heroics helped erase a three-run deficit. Sean Rodriguez smacked a three-run homer off left-hander Jon Lester in the top of the second. Lester lasted five innings and 96 pitches but allowed a two-out single to Francisco Cervelli in the fifth that cost him a shot at earning credit for the win.

Baez sparked a four-run rally in the sixth with a steal of third that preceded Tommy La Stella's RBI fielder's choice, and Ben Zobrist capped the rally with a two-run single.

Baez lined a home run to left field with two out in the eighth off reliever Dovydas Neverauskas.
