JaVale McGee’s championship ring stolen during burglary at his L.A. home

JaVale McGee, a member of the Golden State Warriors 2017 and 2018 championship-winning teams, was targeted by burglars over Labor Day weekend. He was cleaned out of cash, one of his championship rings and the goggles he wore during the 2018 NBA Finals, according to NBC Sports.

McGee wasn’t at his Los Angeles-area home at the time the robbers struck.

The 7-foot-0 center is from L.A. and signed with the Lakers following his two-season run in Golden State.

Burglary rings have repeatedly targeted the L.A. homes of celebrities in recent years, with robbers looting baseball player Yasiel Puig of $170,000 in jewelry,  musician Alanis Morissette of “a safe containing $2 million in jewelry and other valuables” and Nick Young, who played for the Warriors and Lakers, of $500,000 in valuables, according to The Los Angeles Times in a November 2018 article about the arrests of members of a burglary crew.

The Times also reported that burglars selected their strike times by monitoring celebrities’ social media accounts to see when they would be out of town. At the time of the November arrests of 13 members of a burglary crew, the Los Angeles Police Department reported that they found in the possession of the suspects a list of 12 future targets that included basketball star LeBron James and actors Matt Damon and Viola Davis.

An arrest has not been made in the burglary of McGee’s home but police are investigating.
