Jason Smyth wins gold in the 100m at World Para Athletics Championships

Jason Smyth has won his career 20th gold medal at the World Para Athletics Cahmpionships in a record-breaking time of 10.54.

It was a dominant win for the Derry native, who was ran closest by Chad Perris of Australia in 10.86 while Namibia's Johannes Nambala came in third at 10.98.

Smyth has now won five Paraylmpic golds, eight World Para-Athletics Championships and six European titles.

Speaking after the win, he said: "It’s another incredible world championships, things obviously have been going very well this year at such a strange time of the year, November, to be trying to put up fast times.

"But to come here and put up one of my fastest times of the season, it’s testament to a lot of the people that are around me and supporting me and putting me in a position to get here and do so."

It's Ireland's second gold of the tournament after Niamh McCarthy won bronze in Tuesday's F41 discus final.

Smyth had won his heat with a time of 10.84 but told reporters that he was 'Really getting down to business later.'
