Jason Smyth into 100m final at World Para Athletics Championships

Jason Smyth is into the final of the T13 100 metres at the World Para Athletics Championships.

The Derry native won his heat with a time of 10:84 and will be joined in Wednesday afternoon's final by Canada's Austin Ingram and Doniyorjon Akhmedov of Uzbekhistan, who finished second and third respectively.

Australia's Chris Perris, who finished just three hundredths of a second off Smyth's time when winning his own heat, will also join the Irishman in the final.

Speaking after the race, Smyth, 32, said: "It's just about getting through the heats trying to exert as little energy as possible.

"Relax and get ready for the final. We're really down to business later."

The final takes place at 3.15pm today.
