Jason Roy hopes to only miss two World Cup games for England with his torn hamstring and is eyeing a return against Australia.
The injury presents a "grey area", Roy admitted, with James Vince stepping in at Old Trafford to face Afghanistan in his absence.
Roy has already been ruled out of a second game: Friday's fixture against Sri Lanka.
"(I'm) targeting Australia but we'll see how this week goes," Roy said.
"It all depends on this week. If this week goes to plan then maybe, but who knows?
"There's a lot of grey area with hamstrings unfortunately."
As well as Vince stepping in for Roy, England made a second chance from the side that beat the West Indies and Bangladesh.
Spin bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali returned in place of seamer Liam Plunkett.
