Jason Naismith says it was a no-brainer joining Kilmarnock.
The defender opened his account against East Kilbride with a second-half header – and he’s hoping it won’t be the last as he aims to help the Ayrshire side bounce straight back to the Premiership.
He said: “I think everyone knows Killie are a Premier League club. I knew the interest was there even before the end of the season.
“This was a chance to work with the manager for me and obviously, his record was really good at St Johnstone and with what he has done in the game I wanted to work with him.
“Obviously, there are good players here – both the ones here from last season and the ones he has brought in.
“This is a new challenge for me now trying to win promotion, whereas when I was at Ross County I was sort of scampering away to avoid relegation so I am looking forward to it.”
He added: “I should have scored in the first half and I could have had a hat-trick because I flashed one across the goal as well.
“So I’m going for numbers this season!
“But I am pleased with the clean sheet too because we surrendered a two-goal lead against Larne even though it was only a pre-season friendly.
“East Kilbride have got good players – they are no mugs. You saw Dundee United struggle against Kelty Hearts, so we had to be on top of our game and we saw it out professionally.
“We created a lot of chances and probably could have scored more goals and maybe be a bit more ruthless but I am sure that will come.”
