Jason Manford says his under-privileged childhood ensures he keeps his kids grounded

Jason Manford has revealed how his own childhood helps him to make sure his kids stay grounded.

The comedian, 40, confessed that he had an "under-privileged" childhood and wants to ensure that his six children dpn't end up too spoilt.

Jason has four kids with ex-wife Catherine who he split with in 2013; 14-year-old twin girls, a nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son.

He also has a five-year-old daughter and baby son with TV producer Lucy Dyke, who he married in 2017.

Speaking on the Dave Berry's podcast, Dadpod, Jason revealed he tough childhood.

He told the host: "I had an under-privileged childhood.

"I found out later because at the time, I didn't know. I just, I had nothing to compare it against and I just spent my childhood laughing and having a good time and playing.

"I didn't really notice it. But my kids obviously have got all these opportunities and I think I'm a bit pushy when it comes to certain things..."

He admitted that there was a time he tried to take his kids on a trip down memory lane - but it didn't quite work out as planned.

"I was like driving down my old road, my old council estate road and I was about to tell them oh this is where Daddy grew up," he said.

"And there was a moment where my daughter locks the door in the back of the car. I was like, what are you doing, and she went, 'oh it looks a bit rough round here, Daddy.'

"I was like, 'this is where I'm from you cheeky git'."

And he described how his family life gives him plenty of new material for his stand-up shows, and how whether he meant to or not, his children had become a little bit spoilt.

He amusingly told the host how his brood had become reliant on their cleaner called Suzanne.

"Suzanne comes in all the time," Jason continued. "...And my daughter had not tidied her bedroom and I come upstairs, she's about seven at the time, and I said, 'what's going on? Why's your bedroom such a mess?'

A comment by Jason Manford's child made sure they always have to make their own bed (Instagram)

"She was like, 'what do you mean?' I said, 'make your bed'.

"She said 'I don't want to'. I said, 'well if you're not gonna make it, who's gonna make it' and she said, 'Suzanne, the cleaner', and I went absolutely nuts."

He revealed that the story happened four years ago and because of it, his cleaner has never made their beds since.
