Jason Manford and Catherine Tyldesley make convincing couple as they film new show

There'll be plenty of ups and downs for comic Jason Manford and co-star Catherine Tyldesley in new BBC comedy Scarborough.

So what better way to kick it all off than on a rollercoaster ride for the series set in the North Yorkshire seaside town.

Former Corrie star Catherine, 35, and Jason, 37, play a couple of nearly-40-somethings giving their relationship another go, five years after they split.

And by the looks on their faces, it looked like very little acting was required as they flew around on the white knuckle ride.

Benidorm writer Derren Litten has created the series which follows the lives of a motley band of Scarborough residents bonded by family, friendship and their love of karaoke.

So maybe that’s Jason practising his singing – and not wishing: ”Oh, when will this end?”

The star recently revealed he's "struggling" with depression in a brutally honest video.

He spoke out after fans questioned why he had taken a step back from social media.

Posting on his Facebook page, Jason said that he was 'struggling mentally' and was having difficulty battling his mental health issues.

Jason admitted that it had taken a while for him to be able to speak openly about the issues he was facing.

The dad-of-five also took aim at social media sites, saying that they have compounded the mental health of many people.

Speaking in the video, Jason said: "Even down to just comparing your life, you see people saying what they're up to, what they're doing and their house always seems lovely and tidy and the kids seem well behaved and they always look nice and slim, there are lots of reasons you compare yourself to them."

Jason also opened up about the guilt he felt for suffering with anxiety and depression, when he had a happy and comfortable life.

He said that men in particular don't talk about their problems and spoke of his guilt over having anxiety and depression when he has an otherwise happy life.

"When I was at my worst and my lowest and I felt like I'd let my kids down and felt like I couldn't do my job anymore, I suffer from anxiety and depression - and they're not traditional comedy subjects for a comedian to talk about - but I do and it's really hard, really hard sometimes.

"Then I feel stupid because I think how dare you with your lovely life, Jason, and your lovely kids and lovely wife and your parents are still alive, and all these things to be grateful for, how dare you feel bad about your life."
