Jason Leitch sparks SPFL confusion after contradicting Covid travel message to clubs

Jason Leitch insists entire team buses WON’T have to self-isolate for 10 days if one passenger tests positive for Covid - just 24 hours after clubs were told that was the case.

The national clinical director contradicted the information given to SPFL clubs by the Joint Response Group.

Clubs were told in a document circulated by the Joint Response Group that just one case - with Omicron variant spreading rapidly - on the team bus would see every passenger isolating for 10 days.

That saw Scottish football brace itself for complete chaos, but Leitch sent out a mixed message during his appearance on BBC Sportsound’s Off The Ball.

Leitch said: “The rules have changed from the Government and those rules are pretty straightforward.

“If you are a household contact, irrespective of your vaccination status, you have to isolate for 10 days - back to the old days.

“If you are a non-household contact, if you are a contact from work or a bus or train then you can test and release if you are doubly vaccinated.

“You isolate, get a PCR test and if it’s negative you can go back about your business. In order to reduce the chances of you being a contact, on a bus for instance, that means reintroducing some distance.

“So if you’re in charge of the Hearts or St Johnstone bus you’re thinking of increasing that distance again.

“But if you don’t live in the same household then the Government rules that you can isolate until your test is back and if it’s negative you can go about your business.”
