Jason Leitch slams Rangers crowds for title celebrations as national clinical director says 'it's not a good look'

Scotland's national clinical director Jason Leitch has criticised the scenes before Rangers' match against St Mirren - and expects UEFA could take a dim view too.

Expectant fans gathered around Ibrox ahead of a crucial game in the knowledge Steven Gerrard's side would go one point from the title with a win.

But Leitch wasn't impressed by the scenes as supporters let off smoke bombs and flares to welcome Gerrard and the players as they arrived.

He insisted "it's not a good look" as discussions continue between the European governing body and the Scottish Government regarding Glasgow's position as a Euro 2020 host.

Leitch said: "There are 15,500 people with the virus in this country. Some of them could be there. So don’t put yourself in that position.

"And UEFA will be looking on - UEFA are talking to us just now about fans, safety, about all the things we need to do to get crowds in the Euros. It’s not a good look."

Earlier in the day a Scottish Government statement echoed the views of the medical chief.

It read: "We are extremely disappointed supporters have gathered at Ibrox today.

"At this crucial stage of suppressing the virus, the actions of this minority of individuals jeopardises the safety of other supporters, the police on duty and the wider community.

"We will continue to engage with Police Scotland and the club."

Rangers went on to win the match 3-0 through goals from Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi.

They could win the title without kicking another ball if Celtic fail to beat Dundee United on Sunday.
