Jason Knight to Burnley: Derby County's stance, Wayne Rooney's view and the transfer pricetag

Burnley have been linked with a move for Derby County midfielder Jason Knight in the January transfer window.

The Clarets, under new ownership after American investment firm ALK Capital completed a takeover at Turf Moor on New Year's Eve, are looking to strengthen this month and new chairman Alan Pace has pledged to support Sean Dyche in the market.

ALK are not arriving with a mammoth transfer budget and they will also need time to bed in their recruitment strategy at Turf Moor having only just arrived.

But Burnley are in need of first team reinforcements with the club operating with a small squad that has been hit by injuries this term.

Knight is one player reportedly on the radar having impressed for Wayne Rooney's side this season although the Clarets are well stocked in central midfield the 19-year-old's ability, potential, versatility and age profile make him an attractive proposition.

Here is a round-up of everything we know so far about the teenager's future and the Burnley interest from Lancs Live:

The Rams boss is a big fan of the 19-year-old, comparing the Republic of Ireland international's traits to those of his own while Knight was compared to former Manchester United star Roy Keane when he was coming through the ranks at Pride Park.

That highlights the ability the teenager possesses with Rooney glowing in his praise of the midfielder this term.

The Derby stance

The Rams would be loathe to lose the 19-year-old and would seek a hefty fee to part with the teenager.

He is under contract until 2023 and has the potential to improve further on his already strong showings so far this season.

Derbyshire Live suggest it would need 'a big-money cheque' for Derby to consider selling, although balancing the FFP needs is also a factor.

Premier League clubs interested

Burnley are reportedly one of three Premier League clubs keen on a move for Knight.

Crystal Palace and West Ham United are the other clubs in the frame.

The Republic of Ireland international has been a regular for Derby this season and has caught the eye in midfield.
