Jason Kidd will likely only accept the Lakers head job

Although the Los Angeles Lakers are expanding their head coaching search on Thursday starting with former Pacers coach Frank Vogel, one of the candidates that they already interviewed has hopes for the head job.

Jason Kidd interviewed for the Lakers head job early on in the process and left such an impression that the Lakers wanted him as an assistant coach on Ty Lue’s staff before talks with Lue eventually broke down. And now Kidd is poised to take the head job himself.

According to Heavy.com’s Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson, Kidd will likely only accept a head job with the Lakers after they came away from the Lue negotiations without a coach.

According to someone in Kidd’s circle: They’re pretty confident that Kidd would only accept a head coaching position with the Lakers.

So, after it looked like he would probably be happy as an assistant under Lue, Kidd has already put himself in position to be the head coach of the Lakers without ever serving under another coach.

Kidd has a 183-190 record as a head coach, with his best finish as a coach coming in his first season with the 2013-14 Brooklyn Nets. That team was eliminated in the 2nd round of the Eastern Conference by LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
