Jason Kidd and LaVar Ball are betting options to replace Luke Walton as Lakers head coach

The way things are going in Los Angeles, a head-coaching change appears increasingly possible for the Lakers.

It’s gotten to the point where oddsmakers are already taking bets on the options to replace Luke Walton. And somehow, LaVar Ball made the list.

According to Bovada, the betting favorite to take over as Lakers head coach in 2019-20 is former Bucks and Nets coach Jason Kidd. Mark Jackson, Frank Vogel, Kevin McHale and Tom Thibodeau all came in with better odds than Walton had to keep his job.

The list is essentially a compilation of the biggest head-coaching names currently without jobs.

Kidd was 139–152 in his 291 games as Bucks head coach and never got out of the first round in the playoffs. Jackson, who currently serves as an ESPN NBA analyst, last coached the Golden State Warriors. Yet, it was Steve Kerr’s hiring that helped launch the Golden State dynasty. Jackson’s inclusion among the early favorites may be aided by his representation — Klutch Sports represent both LeBron James and Jackson.

At +50,000 odds, LaVar is listed for fun. He won’t be the Lakers head coach — as much as he would love to run a team around Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo.
