The Philadelphia Eagles missed out on Jalen Ramsey after the Jaguars decided to trade their star cornerback to the LA Rams for two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder in 2021.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, has come under fire for what some describe as not doing enough to land Ramsey, with the Eagles cornerback group being the weakest link on a pretty good defense. During an appearance on SportsRadio 94 WIP Eagles center, Jason Kelce defended Roseman, stating that that general manager did everything he could to get Ramsey to Philly.
“From the sounds of it,” Kelce told Angelo Cataldi on Wednesday, “Howie did just about everything he could to try and get him, and it didn’t work out. It’s not like the Rams gave him — what, two first-rounders and a fourth-rounder — it wasn’t like they got him on a steal and Howie didn’t offer them anything. I’ve got supreme confidence in that guy, he makes some incredible things happen and I’m sure he’s still … we’re working really hard to make sure we have the best team possible. I know that that’s always the case.”
The Eagles were in on Ramsey from the beginning and considered one of the favorites to land the disgruntled All-Pro. ESPN’s Tim McManus reported that Roseman was unwilling to part with two first-rounders and with the Eagles having one of the oldest rosters in the NFL, the decision was solid if not efficient for the Birds going forward.
With Jalen Mills, Ronald Darby and Cre’Von LeBlanc set to return to the lineup, the Eagles will likely make a playoff push with the parts they have available.
