PHILADELPHIA _ Outfielder Jason Heyward was placed on the 10-day disabled list before Friday night's game against the Phillies as the Cubs try to complete a successful August.
Reliever Dillon Maples was promoted from Triple-A Iowa to take Heyward's roster spot. Heyward experienced tightness in his right hamstring after unsuccessfully trying to make a diving catch of Freddie Freeman's triple in Thursday night's 5-4 victory over the Braves.
The Cubs are 18-9 in August this season and have a 76-36 record in August overall under Maddon _ tops in the majors since 2015.
The Cubs have earned 18 victories in August for the 17th time in franchise history and first time since posting a 22-6 record in 2016.
The Cubs have won at least 17 games in August for the fourth consecutive season. This is only the second time in franchise history that the Cubs have won 17 or more games in August in four consecutive seasons (1929-32).
