Jason Cummings opens up on Kylian Mbappe shirt chase as former Hibs ace snubbed by France star

Jason Cummings has revealed Kylian Mbappe SNUBBED his offer to swap tops as he revealed the background story after Australia's defeat to France.

The Socceroos took a shock lead against the world champions before losing out 4-1. Former Rangers and Hibs favourite Cummings made his World Cup debut from the bench in what proved a disappointing result in the opener. The Central Coast Mariners striker thought he would at least chance his arm and go to the 'main man' and try land his shirt as the ultimate memory from the showdown.

Cummings was buzzing when he said 'I'll see you in the changing room' but that excitement was short-lived as he had to settle for Jules Koundé's top instead. Revealing all about the post-match shirt chase, he said: “After the game I was disappointed with the result so I kind of missed my boat a wee bit and then I asked Mbappe, I went to the main man.

“I asked him and he said, ‘I’ll see you in the changing room’, so I was buzzing. So we went to the changing room, I was with Cammy (Devlin) and I think the kitman came out and he was like, ‘give me your shirts and I’ll go and get Mbappe’s and whatever.

“I gave him mine, we’re standing there, tops off. Ten minutes later he came back with both the Socceroos kits and he just gave me my top back and he said, ‘nah, he doesn’t want to swap’. He probably took a look at mine and thought, 'I’ll just leave it'.

“On my way out, I was walking back, going back to the changing room and I walked past Kounde, and I was like, ‘Kounde, can I get your shirt?’ I took that, just for a little memory. The Mbappe one would have been good. I probably would have sold it anyway.”

Australia come up against Tunisia next as they bid to get off the mark in Qatar. They then round off their group stage big with a clash against Denmark.
