Jason Cummings makes instant impact in first game since leaving Nottingham Forest

Shrewsbury Town striker Jason Cummings started life after Nottingham Forest boy making an instant impact from the bench for his new club.

The former Hibernian forward made his Salop debut on Saturday in their 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon, scoring just four minutes after coming on.

And he could have doubled his debut tally moments later had teammate Josh Laurent chose a more selfless approach in the dying moments.

Manager Sam Ricketts, who last week warned Forest that they could be forced to regret their decision to let Cummings leave this summer, was delighted to see his deadline day signing open his account so soon despite still being a way from full fitness.

"It's why we brought him to the club," Ricketts told Shropshire Star.

"It was to add quality and goals, ideally.

"Jason's got off to a great start. Physically, fitness wise, he's not ready to start at all, unfortunately, because he's not had a pre-season or games.

"It's just trying to get him in as much as we can. We'll have to assess it.

"I know he's not ready to start but if he can have that impact off the bench it's very good. Towards the end he could've had a second if Josh [Laurent] had squared it."
