Jason Cummings has route out of Dundee doldrums as Central Coast Mariners line up approach

Central Coast Mariners want to offer Jason Cummings a way out of Dundee.

The A-League outfit are keen to land the out-of-favour Dark Blues striker.

The 26-year-old has not featured since he faced a club disciplinary hearing for attending an Open Goal event at Glasgow Hydro and then, in the words of manager James McPake, turned up unfit to train earlier this month.

Cummings was sent to play in a development game days after.

McPake hasn’t said he won’t play again but his days at Dens Park look to be numbered.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and the likelihood is he could be moved in the window to allow McPake to strengthen his own threadbare squad.

Cummings would also probably prefer to make a fresh start as he has lost the main striking berth to Danny Mullen in recent weeks.

That has alerted Central Coast’s Scottish boss Nick Montgomery who wants to take Cummings down under.

It all depends on what other options the former Hibs, Rangers and Nottingham Forest player has on the table.

McPake is already looking to strengthen his squad with a striker and a central defender two of his priorities.

The Dundee boss saw his squad decimated before the winter break because of a covid outbreak and a crippling injury list.

It left the Dark Blues down to the bare bones and forced them to put two keepers and assistant manager Dave Mackay on the bench for their last outing at Aberdeen.

Dundee have quite a few players out on-loan but some of them, the likes of Finlay Robertson at Cove Rangers, look set to be recalled to boost their numbers for the run-in.
