Jason Cummings could prove Nottingham Forest wrong, says new boss

Shrewsbury Town boss Sam Ricketts believes striker Jason Cummings has the talent to prove his doubters wrong and show Nottingham Forest that they have left a good player go.

The Scotland international was frozen out on Trentside after making his big money move to the East Midlands from Scottish side Hibernian in 2017.

And under Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi he was told that he no longer had a future at the City Ground.

But now Ricketts, who lured Cummings into making the switch to New Meadow for a nominal fee on deadline day, is confident that his forward can prove his former boss wrong, admitting that the 24-year-old was perhaps thrust into Championship football too soon.

“I don’t know, it’s a funny one when you come down from the Scottish Prem into the Championship,” Ricketts told Shropshire Star .

“The Championship is a hard league to gauge. I don’t want to go into it because I didn’t know him and I wasn’t his manager at the time but maybe he wasn’t quite ready for it.

“He’s certainly got the talent, but for one reason it wasn’t quite the right time. Now he’s coming here to prove to everyone south of the border."
