Australia are eyeing an audacious swoop for Scotland international Jason Cummings.
The former Hibs and Rangers striker has been capped twice by his country but Socceroos boss Graham Arnold has revealed he is keeping a close eye on the out of favour Nottingham Forest striker.
Cummings has an Australian mother and Arnold has previously convinced fellow Scots Martin Boyle and Harry Souttar that their international future lies Down Under.
The former Easter Road favourite has been capped on two occasions for Scotland but he would be able to make the national team switch as he is yet to play in a competitive fixture.
Players must write to FIFA and apply for a 'change of association' under Article 18 of FIFA's statutes.
The 23-year-old is free to leave the Nottingham Forest and has been linked with the likes of St Johnstone as he looks to jumpstart his stalling career.
Cummings spent last season on loan with Peterborough and Luton Town but has failed to make an impact at the City Ground.
But the Australian FA who plan to keep close tabs on the forward when Arnold and his coaching team heads to the UK for a six-week scouting mission.
He told the World Game : “He’s one either I or Rene Meulensteen will most definitely be watching because we need to spread the net as wide as possible.
“The more talent we can get at our disposal the better and I’m looking at players who have Australian ancestry.
“Martin Boyle and Harry Souttar both fit that category and we may find more out there.”
