Jasmine Crockett Questions Accuracy of Trump Border Data, Says Administation 'Has Not Been the Most Honest'

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said she doubts the accuracy of immigration data reported by President Donald Trump's administration and criticized its enforcement approach during an interview on Meet the Press NOW.

Asked by NBC News correspondent Gabe Gutierrez whether she could acknowledge the administration's reported decline in border encounters, Crockett said she was unconvinced the figures were reliable. "I will acknowledge that what is being reported is that border encounters are lower," she said. "I will also say that we know that this administration has not been the most honest when it comes to reporting numbers."

Crockett, who is currently running for the U.S. Senate, pointed to recent reporting questioning federal jobs data as a reason for skepticism and argued that immigration enforcement under Trump has been carried out in ways she described as "inhumane," as Fox News points out. Crockett added the administration has bypassed Congress rather than pursuing comprehensive immigration reform:

"What I also can tell you is that we have a historic number of American citizens that have been rounded up, and what I can also tell you is that this Supreme Court, unfortunately, has basically given him carte blanche to go after people because of an accent or because of what they look like, and that is wrong."

A recent poll of likely Texas Democratic primary voters showed Crockett leading state Sen. James Talarico, 51% to 43%, with strong support among women and Black voters. Crockett has said favorable polling helped persuade her to enter the race.

Her candidacy has drawn sharp reactions from Republican figures. President Trump called her a "gift to Republicans" and questioned her electoral prospects, while Vice President JD Vance questioned her record by saying that "her street girl persona is about as real as her nails."
