Jarvis Landry ‘ahead of schedule’ on his surgery rehab, plans to be on the field in August

Jarvis Landry didn’t want to have surgery for his injured hip and pelvis. He put it off while playing through the pain and being unable to practice full-time in 2019. While that was good enough to make the Pro Bowl, the Browns wide receiver knows he can be better when he’s pain-free.

Landry had the surgery for his ailing hip in early February. He’s glad he made the decision to go under the knife when he finally did.

“It was something that I knew I needed, and I was gonna try to put off and play tough guy for one more year,” Landry said in a conference call on Wednesday. “But just understanding where I was and the things my hip injury was not allowing me to do, again, I did not want to be part of the reason for the team not having success, myself not having success and unselfishly [I] decided to just go have the surgery.”

He feels much better and the recovery period is going well for the 27-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons working with Baker Mayfield as Cleveland’s primary receiving weapon.

“The rehab process has been going great,” Landry said. “Right now, I’m a little bit ahead of schedule.”

With the schedule for both his rehab and the NFL’s timetable variable at this point, it’s hard to know exactly when we’ll see Landry in action in the new Browns uniforms. But “Juice” has a pretty good idea.

“I can’t predict exactly when I’ll be on the field, whether that’s July, August or September. But obviously, my return date is sometime in August,” an upbeat Landry said.
