Jarvis Cocker could be in line for a surprise Christmas Number One after a campaign was launched to get his x-rated song 'Running the World' to the top of the charts.
Fans have launched a drive to get the anti-establishment song rising up the rankings after the Conservatives swept to election victory last week.
A Facebook group titled “Fancy Getting “C**ts Are Still Running The World” to UK Xmas No.1?” has already gathered 19,505 at the time of publication.
On the social media group, admin explained: “In light of so much recent election horror, let's do this, eh? Bit of fun to focus on for the next week.”
The organisers then go on to explain how to buy the song from iTunes and how streams are also identified as ‘sales’. “We can all have a little singalong instead of the Queen's Speech,” the description continues.
There are also a number of posts on the page which discuss the recent election as well as a petition to send Jeremy Corbyn a thank-you letter.
Cocker’s politically-charged song speaks of an ongoing discontent for free markets, a working class divide and ruling politicians.
The line “F**k the morals, does it make any money?" features along with remarks such as “if you thought things had changed Friend, you'd better think again”.
It’s not the first time that an anti-establishment song has made waves during the Christmas period.
In 2009 US rock band Rage Against The Machine beat X-Factor winner Joe McElderry to the Number One spot with their song Killing In The Name.
Dubbed a “little dose of anarchy” by the group’s guitarist, the rock anthem similarly found it’s fame as a result of social media campaigning.
Cocker is yet to comment on the unexpected wave of support for his place as Christmas Number One, and is up against Christmas chart front runners such as Stormzy and Lewis Capaldi.
The race for the Number One spot will end at midnight this Thursday 19, with Scott Mills going on to announce the chart winners during his radio show on BBC Radio 1.
