Jarrow has a new MP after its first time challenger secured the seat for Labour.
Kate Osborne, a North Tyneside councillor, managed to win the seat with a majority of more than 7,000 on a night which saw Labour majorities slashed across the country.
Ms Osborne, who was a controversial choice prompting some 37 MPs to object to her selection, saw predecessor Stephen Hepburn's 17,263 majority cut to just 7,120 after she pulled in 18,363 votes compared to Tory challenger Nick Oliver's 11,243 votes.
