Michail Antonio bullied his way past two Wolves defenders before hitting a shot into the side netting in the 36th minute of West Ham's 3-2 win on Monday evening and that could be the last action he sees this season.
After scans, this week on the hamstring injury Antonio has suffered a grade two tear and the striker is expected to be out for between four to six weeks.
If he takes the full six weeks to recover that would see him available for selection just but without any match practice for the final game of the season, a home match versus Southampton.
This is not the first time the 31-year-old has suffered from hamstring issues, Antonio was about with a similar issue earlier this season and has undergone surgery on the area in 2017 and 2019.
The news of Anotonio's injury will come as an extra blow to David Moyes after the manager lost Declan Rice for a similar length of time last week following a knee injury suffered whilst on international duty.
Rice has not previously had an issue in the area and was pictured earlier in the week back in the gym at West Ham offering hope his recovery will be a quick one.
Antonio's replacement on Monday evening was Jarrod Bowen and the forward was on the scoresheet within two minutes. Bowen is the most likely beneficiary of Antonio's injury and the 24-year-old is ready to step into his teammate's boots:
“I obviously wasn’t in the starting XI but I was always ready for whenever my chance was going to come," Bowen told West Ham TV.
“Unfortunately Mick picked up a knock, these things happen, and I just had to do a quick warm-up and get on the pitch and two minutes later the ball was in the back of the net, so it’s all about being ready and I’m always ready to give my all.
“After the Man United game, I said I was disappointed with my recent performances but, since that game, I feel I’m getting my spark back, and scoring against Arsenal and scoring on Monday night as well are massive for my confidence.
