Jarrod Bowen backs Mark Noble and takes the positives from defeat to Manchester United

David Moyes' gamble to throw Mark Noble on in the 93rd minute for one kick of the football failed but nobody at the club is blaming the captain.

The manager held his hands up at the end of the match and admitted it was his call to send Noble on to take the ball off Declan Rice for the last-minute penalty.

The skipper ran onto the pitch with a 90.5 percent success rate from 12 yards with 38 goals from his 42 attempts but left the field with his conversion rate down to 88 percent following David de Gea's save.

Whilst Moyes took the blame for the decision on Sunday afternoon Jarrod Bowen has thrown his support behind Noble.

"You ask anyone about West Ham, and they say Mark Noble. He is the face of this club and he has been for however many years he’s been here," Bowen told WHUTV.

"Today was nothing. He’s come on and he’s hit the target, and it’s a good save. It’s a 50/50 chance when you take a penalty, and these things happen in football unfortunately."

Despite the loss, Bowen and Moyes were both pleased with the West Ham performance in a game they thought the Hammers deserved something from.

"The work rate was there and we played some good stuff up against an unbelievable team," Bowen said.

"To concede in the last minute is always a kick in the teeth, but I think we can take a lot of positives from the game today."

The manager concurred with his makeshift striker. "I thought we played really well I didn't think we deserved to be behind," Moyes said.

"I think we've done an awful lot of good things, I think there were some really top performances from our players.

"We've tried to go toe to toe with Man United today as much as we could and I think we made a decent account of ourselves and really in truth we could be sitting here talking about a draw."
