Jarrod Bowen has issued an apology after an old tweet where he used the n-word resurfaced.
The West Ham star's past could come back to haunt him with the FA now aware.
Bowen made the social media post back in 2012 when he was on the books at Hereford United.
He has since apologised for the tweet and claimed it does not align itself with his principles.
"In 2012, when I was a 15-year-old kid, I posted an offensive and immature tweet," Bowen wrote.
"I wish to apologise unreservedly for the unacceptable content of that post, especially to all connected with West Ham United.
"This is not an example I wish to set and it certainly does not portray the values and principles that I hold."
FA plan to contact Bowen regarding his tweet. Previous historic messages have led to fines and bans for players.
The Hammers star may receive a warning however given he was still a schoolboy at the time of the incident.
A West Ham spokesperson has said: “Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of West Ham United, and our zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination is embedded across the club.
“The club takes matters of this nature extremely seriously. In regard to the tweet from 2012, we have spoken to Jarrod and he is aware of the club's unequivocal stance in this area.
“He fully understands the requirements and responsibility upon him to always act in line with the club's values. This will be dealt with internally.”
Watford star Andre Gray was fined and banned back in 2016 when old tweets he posted resurfaced.
He was charged by the FA for bringing the game into disrepute regarding homophobic tweets.
