We have spent a lot of time discussing the Cleveland Browns’ undrafted free agent haul and it is pretty clear what the organization was prioritizing when searching for potential contributors to fill out the bottom of the roster. Many of the players that were signed as undrafted free agents had lackluster careers with little to showcase as far as production or film, but most of this crowd had explosive pro day workouts.
Jarrell Owens was one of the many UDFAs signed by the Browns this offseason and he could provide some value as a backup.

It is a bit surprising to see Owens as an undrafted pickup considering most pundits considered him a solid Day 3 option, but Cleveland wasted no time picking up the former Oklahoma State defensive end. Owens was not seen as a premier selection, but his stock definitely rose due to his outstanding pro day, which resulted in him accomplishing a jaw-dropping 39-inch vertical.
Despite starting and playing a considerable amount the last three seasons, Owens was less than spectacular. His statistical production (six sacks, 11 TFLs as a senior) won’t swoon anyone and his film is just as average. I am a bit lower on Owens than most, but there was obviously a reason he went undrafted and sticking on this roster is going to be an uphill battle. Owens is comparable to another former Oklahoma State defender in Khreem Smith, who is now an All-Arena-level player for the Columbus Destroyers.
