Jarred Garcia got hot to end the APGA Tour Black History Month Classic on Sunday, throwing out three birdies in the final five holes at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and winning by a single shot. Garcia, who won for the first time since 2019, banked a first-place prize of $7,695 for his efforts.
Garcia, of Jacksonville, Florida, finished the event at 6 under after rounds of 70-68. Landon Lyons, co-winner of the first tournament of the year and winner of the APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open Invitational at Torrey Pines last month, came up just short of his bid for a third straight win. He finished at 5 under.
Garcia, 31, is graduate of the University of North Florida who has held status on PGA TOUR Latinoamerica.
“I’ve found something in my swing and these last three days are the best I’ve hit the ball, I think ever,” said Garcia, who plans to play the full APGA Tour schedule. “The courses we’re playing are amazing. The tour has taken a huge jump. Thanks to the APGA Tour, I’m now playing with fitted clubs for the first time.”
From here, the APGA Tour heads north to St. Augustine, Florida, for APGA Tour at World Golf Village on March 21-23.
