Jared Goff working to go through progressions more quickly

Jared Goff had his best season as a pro in 2018, but he’s far from a perfect quarterback. He still has plenty of areas in which he can improve, namely his play when pressured.

The spring is a good time to work on the little things, and with organized team activities featuring no live contact, Goff can focus on going through his progressions to find open receivers more quickly.

That’s something he’s working on in OTAs when dropping back to pass in practice.

“I talk about any way to get completions and that’s really a big one, working through a little bit quicker. And continuing to fully understand each concept and understand what we are trying to get done in every play,” Goff said last week. “That all will lead to more completions and more yards.”

Goff has no problem finding open receivers on a play-by-play basis. What he does sometimes struggle with is holding onto the ball too long, allowing pass rushers to get home.

When he does that, it sets the offense back and creates negative plays. If Goff can go from his first read to his second to his third more quickly, he can get the ball out of his hands faster – even if it means hitting the checkdown.

Goff is plenty accurate, it’s just a matter of him finding the right receiver to target.
