Jared Goff’s status for Week 17 uncertain due to thumb injury

Jared Goff didn’t play particularly well against the Seahawks on Sunday, but he did show remarkable toughness to simply finish the game. In the fourth quarter, he hit his throwing hand on a helmet, which dislocated this thumb.

Goff was seen popping it back into place between plays, never missing a single snap in the game. He was unfortunately unable to lead the Rams to a miraculous comeback win, but Goff continued throwing the ball and connecting with receivers despite his injured thumb.

After the 20-9 loss, Sean McVay wouldn’t speculate on Goff’s status for Week 17. He isn’t sure whether Goff will be able to play but did commend his toughness to finish the afternoon without missing time, confirming that Goff did dislocate his thumb.

It all comes down to Week 17 for the Rams, needing either a win over the Cardinals or a loss by the Bears to secure a playoff berth. Not having Goff would be devastating, forcing John Wolford – who’s never taken a regular-season snap in his career – onto the field as the starting quarterback.

Goff hasn’t played well this year, but he gives the Rams the best chance to win next week against Arizona.
