Jared Goff’s contract details emerge, includes $84M in first 3 years

Jared Goff was rewarded with a massive contract extension after just three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, signing a four-year, $134 million deal this week. It comes with $110 million guaranteed, which is the most in NFL history.

It ties him to the Rams through the 2024 season, paying him $33.5 million per year over the course of four years beginning in 2021. The cap hits and base salary for each of the four years have not yet been revealed, but some details on his contract have emerged.

Albert Breer of the MMQB shared a few numbers, which paints a clearer picture of Goff’s contract.

His signing bonus of $25 million is far more than Carson Wentz’s ($16.4 million) and he also gets $57 million guaranteed at signing – which is an important number in every contract. That figure is actually less than Wentz’s, who got $66.5 million guaranteed at signing.

This isn’t the terrible deal many are making it out to be. Yes, it comes with $110 million guaranteed, but only $57 million is guaranteed at signing. And with it being just a four-year deal, it’s not as if the Rams have mortgaged their future for just one player.

By the time the contract goes in effect in 2021, this will probably look like a reasonable deal – especially if the cap continues to rise the way it has in the past.
