Jared Goff hopes Dak Prescott gets as much money as he can with new deal

There may not be a player in the NFL who will be impacted more by Dak Prescott’s next contract than Jared Goff. Both quarterbacks are almost certain to be signed to long-term deals by their respective teams, but all indications point toward Prescott signing an extension first.

That’s because his contract ends after this season, while Goff and the Rams are putting off negotiations until next year. Goff is well aware of the situation developing in Dallas, but he’s not focusing on it as the season approaches.

“I’ve got nothing to say about that. That’s Dak’s situation and I wish him the best,” Goff said on Wednesday.

Prescott is reportedly seeking an extension worth $40 million per year, which would make him far and away the highest-paid player in NFL history. Goff said “of course” he’s seen that figure floated.

It was also reported that Prescott turned down a $30 million-per-year offer from the Cowboys, seeking more money. For Goff, the more Dallas pays Prescott, the better it’ll be for him.

“It’s great,” Goff said of seeing Prescott’s price go up. “I hope Dak gets as much as he can and good for him. I’m a friend of Dak’s and wish him nothing but the best.”

Goff said there’s been no progress or movement in his negotiations with the Rams, which isn’t a surprise. The team has made it fairly clear that talks will ramp up next year, putting them off until then.

Whether the latest development with Prescott impacts that timeline is unknown, but the Rams weren’t impacted by Carson Wentz’s deal, so it’s highly unlikely they’ll rush to get a deal done before the Cowboys and their QB.

The more Prescott gets from Dallas, the higher Goff’s cost will rise for the Rams. That’s the danger Les Snead and the front office face by waiting to sign their quarterback.
