Jared Goff among top 15 QBs in PFF’s midseason rankings

Jared Goff hasn’t had a great season compared to the year he had in 2018, but he’s still putting up big yardage numbers. Through eight games, he leads the NFL with 2,367 yards. He’s completed 192 of 314 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions, leading the Rams to a 5-3 record.

He was far better last season, but according to Pro Football Focus, he’s still having a solid campaign. In PFF’s quarterback rankings through eight weeks, Goff is 12th – one spot ahead of Matthew Stafford and one behind Dak Prescott.

Goff got off to a fantastic start last season, but it’s been a steady decline since late in 2018. He’s thrown about the same percentage of positively graded throws this season, but his negatives are up 4.6%, the second-highest percentage in the league. Goff’s done his best work off play action, as he’s thrown for a league-high 4,262 yards while averaging 9.9 yards/attempt since 2017, but questions arise when he has to consistently make throw after throw in must-pass situations.

Goff still has plenty of room to improve this season, and he already started moving in the right direction against the Falcons and Bengals. However, he’ll need to keep that up against better defenses such as Pittsburgh’s, Chicago’s, San Francisco’s and Seattle’s in the second half of the season.

With the running game struggling to make a significant impact, the Rams will likely go only as far as Goff will take them.
