Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp hailed by Nuno Espirito Santo after roles in Tottenham win over Man City

Nuno Espirito Santo has heaped praise on Tottenham academy pair Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp after their performances in Sunday’s victory over Manchester City.

Nuno took over as Spurs manager during the summer and got his tenure off to the dream start with a statement victory over the defending champions thanks to Heung-min Son’s goal.

Skipp spent last season on loan at Norwich, helping the Canaries win promotion, and was trusted to start in midfield alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tanganga, meanwhile, was handed a starting role at right-back and did a superb job in shackling the dual threat of Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish down the City left.

“They [Tangaga and Skipp] did well,” Nuno said.

“When they started the season, they were in the processes of recovering from injury, but they had a good foundation in terms of fitness and physicality.

“With the work they did with sports science, I think they were able to keep on growing and we can see they are fit and stronger and faster.

“All the team did very well but Japhet was huge today. He faced too many one on ones today against fantastic players and he dealt fantastically with the situation.”
