Japanese workers don rugby jerseys to kick off 'Cool Biz' campaign

Officials of the municipal government of Higashiosaka, Osaka Prefecture, wear rugby jerseys on Tuesday to mark the start of the nationwide "Cool Biz" campaign. The campaign calls for workers to wear light clothing during the summer and to set room temperatures at 28 C to conserve electricity and prevent global warming. Some officials at the city office chose to wear rugby jerseys to promote the 2019 Rugby World Cup because Higashiosaka is home to the Hanazono Rugby Stadium, one of the World Cup venues. The Cool Biz campaign runs through Sept. 30.
