NEW YORK -- A blog with articles written primarily by Japanese U.N. workers to provide information to countrymen back home facing the coronavirus pandemic started Wednesday on the website of the Tokyo-based U.N. Information Centre.
The first installment of the blog, titled, "Minna de Norikoeyo Shingata Korona Pandemikku: Watashi wa ko Kangaeru" (Let us think together about the new coronavirus pandemic: This is what I think) was written by Izumi Nakamitsu, U.N. undersecretary general and high representative for disarmament affairs.
Touching on the issues of discrimination against medical workers or social media attacks on persons infected with the new coronavirus, Nakamitsu wrote that it is necessary to not create divisions or exchange accusations but to have calm discussions to get through this crisis.
Claiming that the nation will not go back to "normal" after the end of the virus emergency, "we need to start discussions now on what kind of world we want to live in," she wrote.
Future contributors to the blog will include Mami Mizutori, special representative of the U.N. secretary general for disaster risk reduction, Naoko Ishii, CEO and chairperson of the Global Environment Facility -- an international financing organization -- and composer Michiru Oshima.
Mizutori, Ishii and Oshima are among the people who initiated the blog along with Nakamitsu.
