Japanese minister intends to reform system to identify cyberbullies

Following the apparent suicide of professional wrestler Hana Kimura, who was repeatedly defamed online for her behavior on a popular reality show, Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed her intention to reform the system to make it easier to identify individuals who anonymously slander others online, on Tuesday.

Kimura was a cast member of "Terrace House," a reality show about young people living together and forming romantic relationships.

The minister is determined to put together a detailed plan on the matter by the end of the year.

Under the law regarding the responsibilities of internet platforms, victims of online defamation cases can request that information regarding the offenders be disclosed. The new plan will be aimed at speeding up the request process and expanding the amount of information that can be disclosed to the claimants.
